ROICE 2026 represents the fifth Romanian scientific expedition to Antarctica organised by National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences (INCDSB), strengthening Romania’s long-term commitment to international polar research. The expedition will take place between 24 January and 14 February 2026, in one of the planet’s most sensitive and scientifically significant natural laboratories.
ROICE 2026 aims to generate high-quality scientific data from Antarctic extreme environments by integrating the complementary research capacities of INCDSB and the University of Bucharest. The research focuses on ecosystem processes, biological adaptation to extreme conditions, and climate-driven mechanisms, contributing to a deeper understanding of global environmental systems.
Through the continuity of this expedition series, ROICE 2026 strengthens Romania’s position within international polar research networks and supports the development of a coherent and sustainable Arctic and Antarctic research program, with scientific, societal, and applied relevance.
