We would like to communicate that the National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences (NIRDBS) is organising the Romanian Governmental Scientific Expedition in Antarctica – ROICE 2015, at the King Sejong Station of the Korean Polar Research Institute based in King George Islands, during 3-23rd of February 2015.
The purpose of the expedition is to investigate the Antarctic ecosystems by studying the microbial communities from various habitats, in order to identify and characterize the microcosm specific for these habitats. Equally, we aim to study the effects and adaptations of organisms to extreme environments.
The research team is made up of Cristina PURCĂREA – Expedition Leader, Cristian COMAN – Expedition Logistic Coordinator, Corina IȚCUȘ – expedition member and Iris TUȘA – member of the research team.
The ROICE 2015 project runs under the leadership and scientific coordination of Dr. Manuela Elizabeth Sidoroff – General Manager of NIRDBS and Vice President of CNCA of the Romanian Academy, together with Acad. Octavian Popescu – IBB Director and Scientific Coordinator for Life Sciences of CNCA of the Romanian Academy.
Organising this scientific event was possible with the support of the Ministry for Education and Scientific Research/ The National Authority for Scientific Research and Innovation, the Ministry for Environment, Water & Forests and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
